If such a thing exists, I certainly have an internet addiction. And I don’t care. I have absolutely no desire to be a “normal” member of society, doing whatever normal people do with their time (go upstate and drive boats in circles, then come inside to watch “the game” and grunt occasionally?). I’m very happy here, doing what I’m doing, and being a part of something so amazing, challenging, and stimulating.
I prefer “internet enthusiast” in lieu of “internet addiction.” Do we ever describe activities which are ultimately positive, fulfilling, and enriching as addictions? I know, it’s a miniscule point, but still: Those upstate boaters going around in circles aren’t known as “boating addicts.” Perhaps “alcoholics,” but I digress.
I’ve yet to meet someone in the flesh through Tumblr, but I’ve made hundreds of contacts with people I greatly respect and admire for all kinds of reasons and have made many friendships that I consider to be deep and real.
This is interesting, because I’m not a people-person. I’m a total introvert. When I’m in a group of more than two people, I “know” I have nothing of value to say. Naturally, I tend to avoid those situations because feeling stupid just isn’t my idea of fun.
Much of what Marco wrote in his post could have been lifted from my subconscious. And maybe his extremely positive experiences with real-life meetups would apply to me as well. I don’t know, but perhaps I should risk it one day.
I for one would like to start with Marco.
Word.. I’ve met some awesome people through Tumblr, and made some very real friends here.. I’m closer to some than others, but that doesn’t change the fact that friendships have occured..
It sucks being a Tumblr user on this side of the Atlantic, would be cool to meet a few you.. Yes, even you.. No, not you, you.. Haha, sorry for the confusion there, yeah but seriously not you.. You suck..
No really seriously now yeah if any of you are ever in York just holla, yeah? Also: fellow UK Tumblrs (if there are any reading), meetup some time?
Marco.org: Thank you,
I can relate. I’ve tried...friends online but...little...
Extremely well-put,
I’m an Internet addict. I’m also addicted to breathing.
prefer “internet enthusiast”...“internet addiction.” Do we ever describe activities...
No Marco, Thank You.
